Managing Configuration at Scale

When you run a single Telegram group, configuring settings is straightforward. You set up your welcome message, configure your captcha, add your filters, and you are done. But when you manage multiple groups, or when you need to reconfigure a group from scratch, the configuration workload multiplies. Setting up each group individually takes hours, and keeping configurations consistent across groups is an ongoing challenge. BotWave's group settings system solves this with tools for exporting, importing, copying, and resetting configurations.

The goal is to make configuration a one time effort that can be replicated across groups, rather than a repetitive task that has to be performed manually each time. Once you have one group configured exactly the way you want it, you can export that configuration and apply it to other groups in minutes. This is particularly valuable for community networks that maintain consistent settings across all their groups.

Export and Import

The /export command generates a complete export of all group settings, including welcome and goodbye messages, captcha configuration, filters, locks, blocklist, warn settings, flood settings, force subscribe settings, and every other configurable option. The export is a portable file that you can save and reuse.

The /import command applies an exported configuration to the current group. This lets you set up a new group with the exact same settings as an existing one in a single step, rather than configuring each option individually. When you are creating the fifth or tenth group in a network, this saves hours of configuration work and ensures perfect consistency across all groups.

Copy Configuration from Another Group

The /copyconfig command is a shortcut that copies configuration directly from another group without needing to export and import manually. You provide the chat ID of the source group, and the bot copies all settings to the current group. This is the fastest way to replicate a configuration and is ideal when you are actively setting up new groups and want to copy from a known good template.

This command is also useful when you want to standardize settings across groups that were configured independently. Instead of manually comparing settings and making adjustments, you can pick one group as the standard, copy its config to all others, and know that every group is now configured identically. This eliminates configuration drift and ensures that all members have a consistent experience regardless of which group they are in.

Reset to Defaults

Sometimes a group's configuration gets so tangled that the best option is to start fresh. The /reset command resets all group settings to their default values, giving you a clean slate to work from. This is useful when you inherit a group that was configured by a previous admin with different preferences, or when you want to reconfigure a group from scratch after a major change in community direction.

The reset is comprehensive. Every configurable option returns to its default state: welcome and goodbye messages are cleared, captcha is disabled, filters and locks are removed, blocklist is emptied, and all moderation settings return to their defaults. After a reset, you can configure the group from scratch or import a saved configuration, giving you full control over the starting point.

Log Channels

The /setlog command designates a log channel where the bot sends records of all moderation actions, including bans, kicks, mutes, warnings, and filter triggers. This creates an audit trail that admins can review to understand what actions were taken, when, and by whom. The /unsetlog command removes the log channel, and /logchannel shows the current log channel.

Log channels are essential for transparent moderation. When every action is logged, admins can review the moderation history to ensure that actions were appropriate and consistent. This is particularly important for groups with multiple admins, where different admins might apply rules differently. The log channel creates accountability and helps the admin team maintain consistent standards.

Forum Topic Management

For groups that use the forum topic format, BotWave provides commands to manage topics programmatically. The /newtopic command creates a new forum topic, /renametopic renames the current topic, /closetopic closes a topic to new messages, /reopentopic reopens a closed topic, and /deletetopic removes a topic entirely.

Forum topics are a powerful Telegram feature for organizing conversations, but managing them manually is tedious. With BotWave, admins can create, rename, close, and delete topics through simple commands, making it easy to keep the forum organized as the community grows and evolves.

Timezone Configuration

The /timezone command sets the group's timezone, which affects how the bot displays times in messages, schedules broadcasts, and tracks activity. For international groups, setting the correct timezone ensures that timestamps are meaningful to members and that scheduled messages go out at the right time.
